Renal calculi (kidney stones) can cause incredible pain in the more than 300,000 people who seek emergency care for this health issue every year. After receiving reports of patients passing kidney stones after riding roller coasters, the authors created a renal model, suspended renal calculi in urine, and road a roller coaster 20 times to determine the effects of riding a roller coaster on kidney stone passage.
